Africa is the world’s second-largest continent (after Asia), covering approximately 30.37 million square kilometers (about 11.7 million square miles), or roughly 20% of Earth’s total land surface. It stretches approximately 8,000 km (5,000 miles) from north to south and 7,400 km (4,600 miles) from east to west.
