Hurricane Laura ripped through the Zoo, damaging more than 20 animal habitats, countless fences, several roofs, and tumbled trees like dominoes. Yang Yang’s 23rd Birthday!
Yang Yang the giant panda turned 23 on September 9, 2020, and got to explore an outdoor habitat full of birthday surprises that included all of his favorite treats. Special enrichment included an ice “cake” full of bamboo leaves – scented with Yang Yang’s two favorite scents, Tabasco and Listerine; smaller ice “cakes” shaped in the numerals 23; a “candle” made of sugarcane with sweet potato on top; and a birthday box full of leafeater biscuits.
