From Scarborough To Madagascar: World Lemur Day

This YouTube video was produced by the Toronto Zoo.

Lemurs, which we celebrate on this #WorldLemurDay and everyday, call the Madagascar forests home. Sadly, they are recognized as one of the most endangered animal groups in the world.

Earlier this summer, Toronto Zoo staff travelled to the forests of Madagascar to learn how we can make a conservation impact alongside partner Planet Madagascar as proud #GuardiansofWild 🇲🇬

This is not unusual if they are resting, however, it appeared that he may be paralyzed as both his legs and feet were completely immobile.

This was a very heartbreaking and concerning discovery, especially … Continue

While every rhino pregnancy is exciting, Sabi’s was especially so 🦏

Following her arrival in Toronto in 2012, hormone monitoring performed by our Reproductive Science team identified that Sabi exhibited “long” estrus cycles (~70 days in length, compared to the typical ~30 days of fertile females), which have made conception a significant challenge for her. Following continual adjustments in daily care and diet, Sabi’s behaviour in spring 2022 suggested that her hormonal cycles had … Continue
