Have you heard a peep in Penguin Plunge? We have a new Humboldt chick!

In May, Humboldt parents ‘Inca’ and ‘Enrique’ welcomed a tiny chick who is steadily growing bigger and bigger. Earlier this week, the chick, who has not yet been sexed, had its first veterinary exam and received its first dose of the West Nile virus vaccine. 💉Thanks to the gentle hands of our dedicated Animal Care, Health & Welfare team, the chick stayed calm throughout the process and was soon returned to dad in the burrow.

Here comes the boom – the baby boom!

Zoo babies are stealing the spotlight this summer at your zoo. Already this year, we’ve welcomed a near-threatened southern bald ibis chick, three tiny spur-winged lapwing chicks, two lively North American river otter pups, two threatened wood bison calves, three critically endangered black-and-white ruffed lemur pups, and most recently, a vulnerable Humboldt penguin chick along with a second near-threatened southern bald ibis chick.

But there’s more to come! In addition to awaiting the birth of an endangered Malayan tapir, we’re eagerly celebrating
