Last week, as Texas experienced unprecedented freezing conditions from Winter Storm Uri, 37 green sea turtles were rescued along the Texas coast. Working with our partners at Texas A&M Galveston, the Houston Zoo’s veterinary staff were responsible for overseeing the care and treatment of these wild sea turtles before they can be released back into the wild. After evaluation, 25 of the recovered sea turtles were released back into the warmer waters in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday, Feb. 21.
HELP US TO GET OUR ORANGUTANS TO SAFETY!
We just released 10 orangutans in safe forests. And we’re just getting started as we have an ambitious plan to release another 24 orangutans this year.
Tiger Playtime
Meet our Tiger Lake girls, Priya and Dutchess. Every morning before breakfast, Priya does whatever it takes to show off to Dutchess to get her attention for a little bit of neighborly playtime. (Please note: It is not safe to introduce these two girls to the same enclosure. Tigers are solitary animals that do not always share their territory well.)
