The okapi (pronounced oh-COP-ee) is beautiful and unusual. With its white-and-black striped hindquarters and front legs, it looks like it must be related to zebras! But take a look at an okapi’s head, and you’ll notice a resemblance to giraffes. The okapi is indeed the only living relative of the giraffe.

Zoo Knoxville and the Tennessee School for the Deaf teamed up to teach some young students more about animals and get some bamboo for Zoo residents at the same time!
Rhinoceros Hornbill Eating Grapes
Rhinoceros hornbills require mature, old growth forests to provide them with large nest hollows to produce. Unfortunately, in Malaysia, lots of trees have been removed from hornbill habitats to make way for palm oil plantations. So, a team of staff members from the Phoenix Zoo went to Malaysia to help them build better nest boxes like what we have here at the Phoenix Zoo!
