Each year, thousands of Pacific salmon return to Washington watersheds to produce the next generation of fish. Salmon play a key role in our economy and are the cornerstone of Washington’s ecosystem, which supports us all. These amazing creatures are also critical to the health and well-being of Coast Salish peoples, who stewarded these lands and waters for generations and continue to do so today.

WAZA Sustainability Award Acceptance 2021

The North Carolina Zoo has been recognized by the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) as the recipient of the 2021 Environmental Sustainability Award. The award, given to a single organization worldwide, was presented at the organization’s 76th annual conference, held virtually October 11-14, 2021.

SANCCOB receives the majority of its income through donations; however, there are other internal income streams that include facilitating paid tours, hosting volunteers and selling merchandise in the souvenir shop. In order to expand the product offering of SANCCOB’s Cape Town centre and provide an additional income to improve our self-sustainability, we will embark on a new capital project to build a Visitor Centre.
