Giraffes on the Frontline – Science in Action

At the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Dr. Priya is helping revolutionize giraffe care through training – what may seem like a simple task but is incredibly complex for such tall and lanky creatures.

In 2017, Dr. Priya and our Animal Care team co-founded a giraffe plasma bank with Cheyenne Mountain Zoo—a lifesaving national resource. What once started as curiosity about plasma needed for giraffes turned into the Columbus Zoo becoming recognized as a leader in giraffe veterinary care and professional training, hosting workshops for experts from around the world.
