They pollinate many plants, including agave, from which tequila is made. When fruit-eating bats (like flying foxes) poop, they spread seeds and regenerate forests. In some areas, bats are responsible for 95 percent of new growth. Most North American bats eat insects, including ones that bite and damage crops. Every year, they save an estimated $3.7 billion in reduced crop damage and pesticide use.
