Bold for Birds: Coming Together to Conserve the Cundinamarca Antpitta

This YouTube video was produced by the American Bird Conservancy.

The Reserva Natural Refugio del Tororoi is a 499-acre (202 hectares) expanse of misty, highland cloud forest situated on the eastern slope of the Andes Mountains, southeast of Bogotá, Colombia. The reserve protects critical habitat for the Endangered Cundinamarca Antpitta, which numbers only in the hundreds and faces pressure from deforestation that could decimate the habitat of this range-restricted species.

The creation of Refugio del Tororoi was part of the Conserva Aves initiative (https://conserva-aves.org), led by American Bird Conservancy, Audubon, BirdLife International, Birds Canada, and RedLAC and supported by Bezos Earth Fund. Conserva Aves aims to create, consolidate, and manage subnational protected areas for the benefit of birds, biodiversity and local communities across Latin America and the Caribbean. Additional support was provided by Peter and Hank Kaestner and the Bobolink Foundation.

The reserve’s sustainability plan is supported through the Latin American Reserve Stewardship Initiative, a partnership of ABC and March Conservation Fund.
