In Sri Lanka’s ancient temple city, the jungle has reclaimed the ruins, and monkeys now reign. Among them is the Tufts Troop, a family of regal Tufted Grey Langurs led by alpha male Pamu. With silvery fur and black faces, these langurs share their home with two other monkey species: cheeky Toque Macaques, who sometimes bully them out of fruit trees but provide free grooming, and elusive purple-faced leaf monkeys, who rarely descend from the treetops.
This temple paradise is now gripped by one of the worst droughts in years, testing every troop’s survival. Nursing mothers struggle to produce enough milk, and even the reclusive leaf monkeys are forced to the ground for water—a rare and desperate move. Meanwhile, Pamu faces a looming threat: a roving band of bachelor males seeking to take over his troop, a coup that would endanger his young. As resources dwindle and rivals close in, Pamu must fight to keep his family safe during their hardest year yet.
