Federal Lands: National Wildlife Refuge System

This YouTube video was produced by Defenders Of Wildlife.

What is a refuge?

Transcript:

The Red Wolf, California Condor, and Florida Panther are among the hundreds of imperiled species that rely on the National Wildlife Refuge System. There are over 570 refuges, with at least one in every state and territory.

The forests, wetlands, prairies, deserts, and marine depths of the Refuge System are managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service…and devoted to wildlife conservation. But refuges are threatened by special interests and development, mismanagement, and inadequate funding needed to save species on the edge of extinction.

For decades, we have fought to defend the “wildlife-first” mission of the Refuge System. As the extinction crisis accelerates, our vigilance is needed now more than ever to ensure refuges are always a safe home for America’s wildlife.

Defenders Of Wildlife works on the ground, in the courts, and on Capitol Hill to protect and restore imperiled wildlife and habitats across North America.
