Mud Devil, Allegheny Alligator, Water Dog, Walking Catfish, Old Lasagna Sides, Snot Otter … or whatever you want to call them!

Eastern hellbender salamanders are North America’s largest amphibian that live entirely in water and hide under submerged rocks in Ohio’s pristine streams. These incredible species, which are both prehistoric and mysterious are in serious need of our support, as their populations have been driven to the brink of extinction in Ohio and neighboring states. Gregg Lipps, Conservation Biologist, discusses the important role that both the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and The Wilds help play in bringing these species back to Ohio streams.
