Our highway network is vast and effective, connecting people and economies across Canada. Research has shown that just as we lean on maps to navigate this network, animals also need support. But roads can block wildlife, not transport them. CWF is proud to partner with the Alberta Conservation Association and Miistakis Institute on a new project to find solutions to overcoming movement barriers caused by one of Canada’s busiest highways, the TransCanada.

Canada’s wildlife is facing unprecedented threats. From climate change to habitat loss, pollution, and homes being destroyed by the effects of climate change, brought on by human activity, the once-vibrant ecosystems that span our nation are now in rapid decline. Species that once thrived in abundance are now on the brink of extinction. From coast to coast, Canadian wildlife is disappearing—pushed to the edge by circumstances they cannot control.
