We’ve reached 100 days with the 119th Congress and it’s already bad news. Over 20 pieces of legislation, that’s one every five days, have been introduced to weaken the Endangered Species Act and the wildlife it protects.
H.R. 130 seeks to delist gray wolves in 44 states and prevents courts from reviewing that delisting, undermining the scientific integrity of the ESA.
H.R. 587 aims to delist the Lesser Prairie-Chicken and prevents future listing no matter what risk the species faces.
H.R. 471 rolls back ESA and NEPA requirements on millions of acres of federal lands, removes science from land management decisions, and stifles citizen voices.
And H.R. 1897 guts the ESA by amending language in a manner that would cause significant harm to at-risk species and their habitats.
The Endangered Species Act is 99% effective at saving threatened and endangered species – any threat to it is a threat to wildlife.
Defenders Of Wildlife works on the ground, in the courts, and on Capitol Hill to protect and restore imperiled wildlife and habitats across North America.
