Video Transcript:

Hello, I’m Andrew Bowman, Defenders Of Wildlife president and CEO.

I’m thrilled to be at the helm of Defenders of Wildlife after being away for 22 years.

Many people have asked why I made the decision to re-join Defenders at this juncture.

Well, there are three primary reasons:
First, my choices throughout my career to work in the field of conservation have all been motivated
by a desire to ensure that other species have places to thrive.

And although I certainly appreciate the value of wildlife as measured by how species benefit humankind, I seek to protect wildlife for its own sake.

Second, Defenders is the premier wildlife conservation organization in the U.S. It has a tremendous staff that brings a multi-faceted approach to conservation that is pragmatic and sophisticated.
And Defenders’ unrelenting, laser-like focus on the needs of wildlife is so critical when many environmental organizations have adopted much more anthropogenic agendas.

Third, this is the moment for all hands on deck. The biodiversity crisis is as acute as the climate crisis, yet the amount of resources and attention focused on wildlife conservation have not kept pace.

And there are so many trends that are adversely impacting wildlife, including vast new energy infrastructure, unfavorable politics, and assaults on environmental policymaking, just to name a few.

Given this backdrop, now is the time to go all in for wildlife.

I hope you will join me and the incredible staff at Defenders Of Wildlife in helping to protect our magnificent wildlife and wild places.

I know that with your help and support, there’s no challenge that we can’t meet.

Defenders Of Wildlife works on the ground, in the courts, and on Capitol Hill to protect and restore imperiled wildlife and habitats across North America.
